H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard), commonly known as Aschehoug,() is one of the largest independent publishing companies in Norway, founded in 1872. Headquartered in Oslo, the publishing house has 480 employees. The Aschehoug group also comprises other publishing houses owned partially or wholly by Aschehoug. Aschehoug can be directly translated to "ash hill." History Aschehoug was founded as a bookstore in 1872 on Egertorvet in Oslo by cousins, Hieronymus and Halvard Aschehoug. From the start the firm was involved in publishing in a modest way, its output consisting mainly of school books. In 1888, the company was taken over by William Martin Nygaard and Thorstein Lambrechts (1856-1933), who kept the name while expanding its operations. The Nygård Bridge ( no, Nygårdsbroen) is a series of parallel bridges that cross Strømmen, the sound entering Store Lungegårdsvannet, in Bergen, Norway. The Old Nygård Bridge dates from 1854 and carries the two tracks of the Bergen Light Rail as well as pedestrians and cyclists. The New Nygård Bridge opened in 1978, and carries six lanes of European Route E39. The New Nygård Bridge II, built in 2008, carries the two lanes of the street Nygårdsgaten. The old bridge was opened in 1854 as a pedestrian and vehicle bridge. Nygård Church
Nygård Church ( no, Nygård kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the Gravdal neighborhood in the city of Bergen. It is the church for the Nygård parish which is part of the Bergen domprosti (arch- deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, brick church was built in a fan-shaped design in 1972 using plans drawn up by the architect Arvid Jacobson from the firm of Einar Vaardal-Lunde. The church seats about 520 people. History A new cemetery at Nygård in the Gravdal neighborhood in Bergen was inaugurated in December 1876. Immediately after World War II, planning for a church at the cemetery site began. The parish hired Einar Vaardal-Lunde in 1954 to design the new church. However, the economy put an end to these plans for some time. Nygard Park
Prairie Sentinels Park (formerly known as Nygard Park) is a public park located in the centre of the town of Deloraine, Manitoba. The park host more than 200 flags from around the world. The park is landscaped with a brick wall facade, paved walking paths, and a commemorative plaque recognizing Peter Nygård's financial contribution to the town. History As the year 2001 neared, the town of Deloraine developed the ''Fly the Flags of the World'' millennium project with the goal of displaying flags from all over the world. The project started with a letter writing campaign to each country’s embassy asking for the donation of their national flag. If this was not fruitful, the flag was purchased. The flags would be displayed throughout the town, but the majority would fly in Nygard Park. Prior to the renovation, the future site of Nygard Park was a rundown Canadian Pacific Railway yard.
